A Grenadines & St. Lucia yacht charter offers visitors a combination of rainforest eco-adventures, scuba diving, classic Caribbean powder-white sand beaches, black sand beaches, an active volcano, and luxury yachting adventures. Best of all, this chain of islands provides visitors an opportunity to experience undiluted Caribbean life and spend time with the warm and gracious people who live there.
The Grenadines are a chain of islands that are part of the countries of St.Vincent and Grenada. 32 islands and cays comprise St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Nine are inhabited, including the mainland of St. Vincent and the Grenadines islands: Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Union Island, Mayreau, Petit St. Vincent and Palm Island.
The Grenadines are divided between the island nations of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. They lie between the islands of Saint Vincent in the north and Grenada in the south. Neither Saint Vincent nor Grenada is actually a Grenadine island. The islands north of the Martinique Channel belong to Saint Vincent and the Grenadine islands south of the channel belong to Grenada.
The island country of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is in the Lesser Antilles island arc, in the southern portion of the Windward Islands that lie at the southern end of the eastern border of the Caribbean Sea where the latter meets the Atlantic Ocean. The country is also known as St. Vincent. The official language is English. The currency is the East Caribbean dollar. Its capital is Kingstown. To the north/northeast of Saint Vincent lies the sovereign island country of Saint Lucia, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinque. Cruising the waters of both countries is a rewarding yacht charter.
An unforgettable drive and hike will bring you to the rim of Soufriere, an active volcano. Soufriere is one of St. Vincent’s claims to fame and draws visitors from all over to its peak. Soufriere’s eruptions occur every 70 to 100 years. The next is expected around 2050, so don’t be too concerned.
Visit the island of Mustique, and you may rub elbows with celebrity homeowner Mick Jagger. You also could rub noses with some of the beautiful underwater sea creatures during a snorkeling or scuba excursion in Britannia Bay.
About an hour from St. Vincent by yacht is the island of Bequia, the largest of the Grenadine Islands. No fast food restaurants or tourist traps will impede you there. Just head straight for the set of the blockbuster movie, Pirates of the Caribbean, and pretend you are Captain Jack Sparrow. Visit the Windward Coast of the island and you’ll find black sand beaches from the volcano.
Kingstown, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines capital, is a major port city for the Caribbean island chain. The city features a series of 19th century buildings, including St George’s Cathedral, known for its beautiful stained glass, and the Romanesque Cathedral of the Assumption. In the wharf area, visitors can see structures built from the tile and red brick that was used for ballast on trading ships from Britain, or head up to Fort Charlotte for a magnificent view of the city.
Saint Lucia is a sovereign island country in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique.
The volcanic island of Saint Lucia is more mountainous than most Caribbean islands, with the highest point being Mount Gimie, at 3,120 feet above sea level. Two other mountains, the Pitons, form the island’s most famous landmark. They are located on the western side of the island between Soufrière and Choiseul.
A surreal scenario comes to life at La Soufrière, one of the most popular attractions in St. Lucia, where visitors can actually drive into the volcano. You can also pack your skin with the medicinal mud of Sulfur Springs for a DIY spa treatment. Continue your eruptive adventures with a guided hike of the two volcanic plugs known as the Pitons then ascend Morne Fortune to take in the sweeping views. For an intimate beach experience, hit the private black sands of Anse Mamin.
The Saint Lucia capital is Castries where 32.4% of the population lives. Major towns include Gros Islet, Soufrière, and Vieux Fort. The official language of St. Lucia is English, although, like most Caribbean islands, dialect is spoken amongst the locals. The currency of the country is the East Caribbean Dollar. The local climate is tropical, moderated by northeast trade winds.
Visitors to the Grenadines and St. Lucia will find that they are warmly welcomed. Enjoy the restaurants, local attractions, beautiful beaches, and year round tropical weather. A yacht charter that is well worth a return trip.
