St. Barths, St. Martin & Anguilla Yacht Charter

A St. Barths, St. Martin & Anguilla yacht charter takes you to three Caribbean islands in close proximity with distinctly unique features that make the year round destinations yacht charter favorites. The islands lie east of Puerto Rico, Anguilla being the northernmost, with St. Martin and St. Barths to the south. Uninhabited smaller satellite islets and cays surround all three islands. A few are privately owned.

St. Barths

Officially St. Barthélemy, but more commonly recognized as St. Barths, or St. Bart, is one of the Renaissance Islands, and is separated from St. Martin by the Saint- Barthélemy Channel. The island is known for its white-sand beaches, chic hotels, designer shops, and its reputation as the celebrity playground of the Caribbean.

Gustavia, the capital, encircles a yacht-filled harbor, and combines high-end dining with historical attractions like The Wall House, whose exhibits highlight the island’s Swedish colonial era. Strategically situated above the town is 17th-century Fort Karl, offering breathtaking panoramas of popular Shell Beach. St. Barths offers 15 public beaches that are suitable for year round swimming with temperatures ranging from the low 70s to the mid 80s Fahrenheit.

French is the official language of St. Barthélemy, but English is widely spoken due to the hugely American tourist trade. The island is a French Territory, a duty-free port; Philipsburg is its capital, and its currency is the Euro and US dollar—both are accepted.

St. Martin

South of Anguilla and north of St. Barth, lies the Caribbean island of St. Martin. It is part of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean Sea and offers visitors the experience of visiting two island colonies in the same 37 square miles. It comprises two separate countries, divided between its northern French side 60%, also called Saint Martin, and its southern Dutch side 40%, called Sint Maarten. The island features popular resort beaches as well as secluded coves. It is renowned for its fusion cuisine and duty-free shops selling visitors jewelry and liquor.

St. Martin’s Dutch south side is celebrated for its festive nightlife, beaches, jewelry, drinks made with native rum-based guavaberry liquors, and casinos. It’s capital is Philipsburg with a population of 74,852 as of the 2007 census. The official currency is the Guilder, but the US dollar is accepted everywhere and the Guilder is rarely used. The official languages for Sint Maarten are both Dutch and English.

The island’s French north side is known for its principal town and capital, Marigot, clothing optional beaches, fashion, and shopping (including fabulous outdoor markets. Marigot is within easy reach of the famed restaurants at nearby Grand Case, said to have the Caribbean’s best dining. Although the official language is French, English is the most commonly spoken language along with a local dialect. The Euro is only used on the French Side of the island, but the US dollar is accepted everywere on both sides.

The French and Dutch cultures match St. Martin’s physical diversity. The entire island is both urban as well as untamed, with rain forest-like landscapes, white beaches, and fascinating caves and wildlife.

Anguilla

Anguilla is a British territory. It is one of the most northerly of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles, and lies east of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, directly north of Saint Martin. The main island is surrounded by a number of smaller islands and cays with no permanent population. The island’s capital is The Valley.

Most locals in Anguilla speak a British-influenced variety of “Standard” English, although other languages are spoken on the island. However, the most common language other than Standard English is the island’s own English-lexifier Creole language referred to locally by terms such as “dialect” (pronounced “dialek”), Anguilla Talk or “Anguillian”.

Anguilla’s currency is the East Caribbean dollar, though the US dollar is widely accepted. The exchange rate is fixed to the US dollar at US$1 = EC$2.70.

Some consider Anguilla’s beaches to be the best in the world, probably because of the white, powdery sand that stretches for miles, pristine waters, and the laid-back, welcoming attitude of the Anguillan people. Swimming and sunbathing all day, all year round at romantic public beaches like Rendezvous Bay is a popular local pastime. Then dance to calypso music at a local nightclub after a sumptuous meal at one of the many fine restaurants featuring Anguilla’s version of Caribbean cuisine.
