Barcelona And The Balearic Islands Yacht Charter

The Mediterranean islands of Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza comprise the Balearic Islands, also known as the Spanish Jewels. Add the tiny island of Formentera, just south of Ibiza, and a year-round playground that is always in season attracts the mega yacht fleet and tourists by the thousands. Sunny days and steamy nightlife describes the ambience of this subtropical destination. The mild winters and warm summers are ideal for exploring one of Europe’s most renowned centers of art, culture, and cuisine. On the coast to the north, modern Barcelona, rich in history, has managed to preserve its old world charm and passion in a cosmopolitan urban setting designed for all seasons to enjoy the best that Spain has to offer.

A Balearic Islands yacht charter starts at Barcelona (Spain), a major cultural and economic center in southwestern Europe. Located on the Iberian Peninsula facing the Mediterranean Sea, the city is nestled between the Llobregat river on the southwest side and the Besos river to the north. The Pyrenees and Catalan mountain ranges on the inland side form a natural border with France. This magical urban treasure is home to at least eight World Heritage Sites, the Picasso museum, and the work of world famous architect Antonio Gaudi that is displayed throughout the city. His best-known project, the unfinished church of the Segrada Familia, has been under construction since 1882, and is scheduled for completion in 2026. Add fabulous shopping, Catalan cuisine, medieval architecture, as well as quirky art and a vibrant street and nightlife, and you have defined Barcelona, a city well worth exploring.

A Balearic Islands yacht charter to the archipelago off eastern Spain, is nothing short of a spectacular yacht cruiser’s dream. Mallorca, the largest island, offers astonishingly beautiful beaches and a scenic coastline. Palma, the capital, is home to buzzing nightlife, as well as a Gothic cathedral with an altar canopy by architect Antoni Gaudi, and the Moorish Almudaina royal palace. A short drive to the southwest section and gold-stone hill towns peek out from above olive groves, cliffs loom above secluded coves, and the wild limestone peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains make for spectacular hikes, bike rides and scenic drives.

On Menorca, a short cruise away, life slows to a comfortable pace. The island is home to prehistoric sites, pristine beaches, and forts built by her conquerors. The narrow cobbled lanes of Old Ciutadella between Plaça d’es Born and Plaça de ses Palmeres feature whitewashed buildings abutting elegant noble palaces and ornate churches like baroque 17th-century Església del Roser. Església dels Socors is home to the Museu Diocesà, a fine little museum. And Carrer ses Voltes is lined with smart shops, restaurants and bars.

Then a stop at Ibiza, the all-night raver and central party zone of the Spanish Jewels. Here, chilling at sunset is a ritual at the Sant Antoni de Portmany’s strip of mellow cafes restaurants and bars. After a day of frolicking amongst bikini-clad sun worshipers on sun-drenched beaches and a few dips in gin-clear waters, nothing could be better than a refreshing cocktail at sunset followed by dancing the night away at a party that never ends.

The last stop at the tiny island of Formentera could be the most memorable. The seemingly easily forgotten add-on to the archipelago captures the essence of the Balearic culture. Visitors quickly understand the meaning of “Once bitten, twice smitten” when they visit the island for the first time. Picturesque, clean beaches and miles of ocean vistas make this unworldly corner of paradise the perfect place to play in the sand and watch puffy clouds dance across Dali inspired skies. If there is a better way to re-charge the body’s batteries and elevate the human spirit, we don’t know about it.
