Antigua Yacht Charter . . . More Sun For Your Fun

An Antigua yacht charter starts approximately 17 degrees north of the equator in the Eastern Caribbean at the center of the Leeward Islands. To the south, lie the islands of Montserrat and Guadeloupe, and to the north and west are Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Barth, and St. Martin. Antigua is the main island of the country of Antigua and Barbuda.

Antigua is the largest of the English-speaking Leeward Islands. It is about 14 miles long and 11 miles wide, with an area of approximately 108 square miles.

The climate is perfect for a yacht charter, with temperatures ranging from the mid-70sF in the winter, to the mid-80sF in the summer. The annual rainfall averages only 45 inches, making Antigua the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands, with low humidity year-round.

The island boasts 365 magnificent beaches, and all are open to the public. The majority can be found on the island’s Caribbean side where the waters are calm and protected. Finding your favorite beach is best accomplished by yacht.

Both Antigua and the smaller island of Barbuda to the north are nearly surrounded by well-preserved, spectacular coral reefs, walls, and shipwrecks; perfect for diving, snorkeling, and some of the best underwater photography opportunities anywhere.

In addition to great water sports and related activities, Antigua offers a variety of land side sites and places of interest.

Explore Antigua

See Shirley Heights is a rambling array of gun emplacements and military buildings best known for the breathtaking panoramas that it offers. From the Heights, one can look far out over English Harbor, and on Sunday afternoons, the view is accompanied by barbecue, rum punch, and the plangent strains of steel band and reggae music.

Visit Sea View Farm Village is the center of pottery making, a cottage industry on Antigua. Clay is collected from local pits, and the wares are fired in an open fire under layers of green grass in the yards of the potters’ houses.

Harmony Hall Art Gallery in Brown’s Bay at Nonsuch Bay is the center of the Antiguan arts community. Exhibits change throughout the year, but the annual highlights are the Antigua Artist’s Exhibition and the Craft Fair that take place in November.

The charming Museum of Antigua and Barbuda tells the story of Antigua and Barbuda from its geological birth through to present day. A cool oasis in the middle of St. John’s, the museum offers visitors a variety of fascinating objects and exhibits, ranging from a life-size replica of an Arawak dwelling to the bat of Viv Richards, one of the greatest cricket players of all time.

Explore the villages and towns. Sample the excellent cuisine. Hike the many nature trails, and shop in the sophisticated boutiques in St. John’s as well as the open markets where local artisans peddle their wares. Soak up the sun on the many beaches and make your Antigua yacht charter a rewarding experience.
